the shock absorbers just bolt on to the frame with 2 bolts a side.
and the bumper attaches to those.
the impact shocks can be pulled out with some force.

not going through insurance is a bad idea unless they give you cash on the spot.

I got rearended once in my ranger (on my way to buy headers for my stang) and the guy didnt want to go through insurance, so I looked at it and told him give me $300 and its even.
he tried to loose me on the way to the bank, but I got the money.
it bent my bumper so it pointed down, only bent the brackets that hold it on.

I would just tell the guy to give you half of the bodyshop costs and call it even.

Thats what I plan on doing. I looked at it and decided the energy absorbers are still in decent shape, I just need to bend the brackets that attaches the rear bumper cover. At this point he did me a favor and got me off my ***

Reason being is... I'll have to pull the tank to remove the absorbers, and i need to replace the senders, and filters on the fuel lines. So ill be able to fix all that and my fuel guage will soon be functional! So, at this point im happy... BUT thats only if it all goes to my plan, i still have to find parts for this damn thing... So, I just came from the bank 500$ richer!

The guy actually paid me, I guess you can still trust people.

Great thing is, this repair should only cost me about 5$...
The bumper will retain its shape, and the absorbers are still functional... All i need to do is bend the brackets back and replace the plastic pins holding the bumper cover on.
gotta love it
