RE: TIMING PROBLEM
If you did, did you remember to replace it after you were done? I'm kinda confused, but it sounds like you are saying that your timing is stuck at 14* and that the computer is not advancing or retarding it as it should. Is that right?

RE: TIMING PROBLEM
I thought he was saying that he was advancing it and it kept going down... if so it could definetly be your spout connector. If so, I have one that you could have if you just pay for shipping. I got it off of a 4cyl but I really dont think that it matters. Whenever I see stupid parts like this at the junkyard I always grab them just incase I need them one day. No wonder why I can build three stangs off the crap in my garage

RE: TIMING PROBLEM
Not to keep asking stupid questions, but the car was shut off when you removed and when you replaced the spout connector right? I know, dumb questions, but I have to ask
After shutting it off and replacing the spout connetor, the timing actually stays right at 14 and doesn't fluctuate at all? I'm wondering if it's a problem with the spout connetor or the wiring to it. It could be the distributor or even some error in the computer itself, but it's always easier to check the simpliest things first.

Follow that step by step and see if that works. You shouldnt have any problems...

RE: TIMING PROBLEM
88BlueGT knows this stuff WAY better than me, but I know a little about it. Basically here's what you do in a nutshell.
First shut the engine off. then remove the spout connector. Next start the engine and set your base timing. Finally shut the engine back off again and replace the spout connector. Now when you turn the car back on, everything should be all set.
