Default Compatibility Questions

I searched a lot of the older posts and could not find a reasonable answer to my questions.

1st Q: In an EFI mustang 5.0, when installing new fuel components be it fuel pump, injectors etc.. How do these components function together? Do they need to be calibrated or is it plug n' play?

2nd Q: When installing internal engine components like higher lift cam or modified duration cam what are the restrictions that I need to know about these general components before making a decision to buy them. I dont want to buy rockers only to find out they are not compatible with my 5.0 (i.e hit the top of the valve covers).

I don't want to buy components for a mustang, plug them in and find out I am doing something wrong and harmful to the car. Someone please educate me! Thanks!

Default RE: Compatibility Questions

ok....adding a bigger fuel pump on a efi car only means you have more pumping power on tap if need be because it has a regulator....when going to a bigger injector in a efi car the mass or maf has to be calibrated to those injectors for proper operation

if using a roller hydraulic cam then stock roller lifter will work. on fords' they like cams that have a lil more lift and duratin on the exhaust side known as a dual pattern cam.

Default RE: Compatibility Questions

Ah thanks for the info that clarified it well. But one more thing, does the stock mustang cam leave the intake valve open for a little bit longer after BDC or so little that you couldn't feel the upper end horsepower. I'm looking to do a few things to the car when I soon buy it.

3.73 gears
Long tube headers + high flow exhaust + mufflers
Intake + TB
Ignition system? (<-- is this needed yet?)
Raise the compression a shizzle
Wider tires
Lastly, cam (<-- I will need help on choosing this one )

Cheers!
