Default Coolant questions

Ok for sometime now my car has not been running the right temp. if you let it idle it will warm up in about 10min to operating temp. then if you drive off about 5min later it cools down to 160 or so, then if you keep driving down the road at 50mph or so it gets cooler and cooler. i have replaced the thermostat many times and that has not fixed the problem. also when it idles the system has pressure but if you drive the car and then stop and pop the hood and check the coolant system it does not have pressure or its very litte. the coolant is kinda light brown color to. its not old ither. im really stumped on this.

yes eletric fan. no it kinda has a hit of oil smell to it. but its like water, its not gunky or anything. i have been thinking HG for sometime now because I over heated it awhile ago and since than oil has seaped out between the deck and the head on both sides of the motor.

that sucks tim, a coolant pressure test will be the most telling, how old is the radiator? if its original the brown color may be from an old copper/brass radiator whose guts are rotted out. however it sounds like head gasket, do you have any white smoke coming from the tail pipes or loss of power?
