Default Need advice for a project car.

Hey guys I would like some advice on a project car I've been thinking about doin for a while now. I want to build an older fox body to run 10's. My preference for year would be the body style of the 1990 LX or GT. This car would not be a daily driver simply a track car. My questions are, how much does a gutted car wiegh approx. and what kind of power would it take to hit 10's? Also how much power can the stock block hold and how much would a after market one be. I saw in a Jegs catalog that you can get one for 900$ that dosent sound bad at all. How much would that one hold up to. And if I bought a car with a 4 or 6 banger in it would a V8 swap be as easy as changing the motor mounts? And almost forgot! how much power what the factory rearend with some gears hold up to with an automatic? Thanks in advance!

stock block will hold up to like 400 hp which is nowhere near enough to run 10's... youll need one of these 347 dominator long blocks with a supercharger to run high 10's. id stick with a 5.0 instead of a 4 or 6 mustang so you dont have to change the rearend and break system.

An lx coupe would be perfect for a drag car since they are lighter then hatchbacks.

If you can drive, all it takes is about 450rwhp to run 10s. There is a member on here that has a stock engine(besides the usual bolt on's) that runs high 12s. He has a fully built AOD and suspension, with a 110 shot of nitrous he runs 11s.

The stock block is good for 500hp.

Ok so A 1990 LX sounds good so far. Now how bout axle and Transmission. I think I want to go with an automatic on this car My LS1 is a 6 speed and Im pretty consistant with it but I think the Auto I'd be more consistant then the manual. If I get the factory auto can I just get it rebuilt with some beefy parts to handle that kind of power or would I have to put a different modle in? And what about the rear end how long does a factory one hold up for on slicks and how much power would it handle in stock form and when it goes can I put stronger axel shafts and run a Locker or would I have to go with a different rear end. Thanks again guys Im learning alot so far!

I have heard nothing but good things about Lentech and Art Carr for transmissions.
