???timing question???
hi ok i was wondering what i should set my timing at, running octane 93. i set mine at about 13, today i went to the track and a guy was there with his mustang and he said stock was 6 and he was at 4, then he tried 6 then 8 and rn faster and faster then tried 12 and the car didnt like it so he went to 10, why would he have the timing clear down to 4 i thought stock was 10 not 6??? he said u should not go much past 10??? any help please i heard ot go to like 12 or 13, thanks a lot

RE: ???timing question???
i think that guy is full of crap unless he was s/c or turboed...look at my dynoes i went from9 deg.=277hp to 18 deg.=310hp.my isn't stock, but in the same note it ain't like some of the other guy's radical set up.get it tuned first get a baseline then make your adjustments.make sure they have o2 widebands to get a proper tune.

RE: ???timing question???
Mine runs best at 15, and that's a stock motor running 93 octane. I know because I had it on the dyno, and 15 is where MY motor made it's best power.
Your's could be higher, the same, or lower. The best way to "know" is to put it on the dyno. At $50 for 3 pulls, it's money well spent to know for sure where you motor runs best.
As far as the other guy running at 8, perhaps that's true. That's where HIS motor makes it's best power apparently. But he's wrong to say 6 is the factory setting, because it's 10.
The other possibility is his crank pulley has slipped just a little, making his timing marks off just a little. Not too likely, but possible.

RE: ???timing question???
sound to me the guy did not build teh car but the person that did set the crank to 4 dregees in advance makeing his 10 really a 14 so dont worry if your car makes more power at 13 leave it there. if you cant fell the diff. then keep it as low as poss. only need to advance the timing to make power if you dont get nuthin out of it dont do it.
