TAKE OUT THE 2.3 AND PUT IN A 1985 5.0
Hello, My name is Troy. My son and I were given a 1986 Mustang with a blown-up 2.3L. The rest of the Mustang is PERFECT!. I have a complete but wrecked 1985 Mustang GT with a PERFECTLY running, Non Smoking, Non leaking, 5.0. I would like to install that 5.0 in 1986 Mustang. Does anyone know of a step by step book I can buy to help me along with the SWAP. How about a Web Page that'll help me as well. Any suggestions would help. What to look for? What could break coming out, and what to look for creating problem later on after reinstallinhit. The 5.0 has been onced over by my Local Causeway Ford. I really love those finned valve covers; "POWER BY FORD" I've done probabaly 50 engine swaps in my life. This one appears to be more difficult then others I've done. In all the engines I have done, I have never seen so many hoses and wires. ICARuMBA!!!!. I need to teach him the right way to do this and want it to be perfect from start to finish. Any suggestions on the right way to start this engine swap? labeling every hose and wire will be fine but it'll take forever. If thats the way to go, we'll have to do it that way.
Okay...Sorry to say this and I know SVO owners are going to take out hits on me. I know the heart, soul, and essence of the SVO is it Fabulous 2.3 turbo intercooled, velcro suspention and..on and on. I was paralized from the waist down for 8 years. Recently through intense therapy, I am able to walk again. Sluggish but I can walk. Anyway. I really want a 1986 SVO, my 1986 SVO which is what I have to sport a 5.0 with an automatic Trans. In order for me to use it and enjoy it again...Sorry SVO Fanatics. I am one too. But this has to happen. Any help would be greatly appreciate any help, Information, pictures. I have been looking for any books that'll explain it we'll too so if any of Ya'll know of any fantastic ones that'll help,Please let me know.Take care to all of you and I hope you sell, Trade, fix, and most of all like me, make your Mustang your own.Thank you.

sell the svo to someone who won't destroy it with a v8. then buy a regular 4 banger and do the swap. svo's are rare as it is and people bastardizing them with v8's is only destroying the few that are left. i bet if you posted a for sale add on svoca.com you could sell or trade ths svo for a different mustang that way you could get what you want and another svo would be saved

The SVO is indeed a rare car. You would also be downgrading by putting the 85 GT engine in it. The SVO made more power out of the box than the GT's did. Personally, i would sell the SVO and pick up maybe another GT, or something like that, because those SVO's are getting really hard to come by, they are a piece of history.
Youll have a big problem with the wiring in those cars, since i believe they had their own specific harness, the dash harness had a lot of extra's, and youll lose a lot of the functions by going with a carbed 5.0.
Build the 2.3L, or sell the SVO. It would almost be like taking an earlier Pontiac Trans Am that had a 455 Super Duty, and swapping in a built Chevy 350.
