Hey, if this does turn out to be a Mexico block, I am going to request some high quality pics comparing the main webs.

It is also possible that this is a Mexican 351w.

Since the guy who sold it had no idea what is was, it would be worth double checking some dimensions. Oil pan width and lower intake width are wider on the 351w.

the budget is reached right now, so ill have to wait another week, BUT the SHORTBLOCK

is INSIDE MY HOUSE so no chance of rust and all that stuff.

Master gasket and seal set with freeze plugs on its way, master bearing kit on its way, new rings on its way. The machinist explained he will show me how to FILE FIT FOR POWER and do a nice 180 180 cross hatch in all my bores.

I will experiment with the camshaft to bring the powerband down a little, with my head and heads gasket on and play dough and micrometer at hand, to see what my valves are doing as the crank is rotated and how much room i have left to play with.

Comp Cams has talked to my machine shop and got all the specs and flow numbers, and has gave me a CUSTOM DURATION figures, with my 4:10 gears etc to make power 1600-5700 rpm which is my entire powerband with these heads. The damn thing is like a rocket to redline, so I dont dissagree with the stock cam at all.

FOUND THIS GUY STAMPED, YES THIS IS A 302 MEXICAN BLOCK IN EXCELLENT SHAPE BAR NONE. Its THICK AND HEAVY.

This block is so low miles, I found some fresh sand from the block when it was made.

Im Told I can do a 355 STROKER KIT OR SICK HEADS, RACE CAM AND MODIFIED CAM TIMING or both , but im ok right now.

I have had my 351w heads ported OUT TO MAX, valve seals replaced , and my big ol chevy valves cleaned.

I have had intake ports sketched to prevent fuel puddling. We are gonna do a 180 180 even and V-SHAPE Downward cross hatch in all bores, polish the crank and enlarge several oil holes, for faster drain down.

Also im planning to instal a windage tray and use a 5w 20 oil( up in question right now).

Turning the pistons backwards is also up in question[:-]

no, what im asking is... i know they made the older 302/351W mexican blocks, but did they produce the latter, 5.0 blocks in Mexico. I was under the impression that only the older blocks like the vintage iron, like a % of them were mexican blocks, i thought they halted production in mexico earlier.

ok gang just done some cool things.

Cross Honed the bores to an even V Pattern 180 180 cross hatch, 5 seconds each bore is your time limit in there.

Wet sponge pad power sanded the exterior gasket surfaces, removing all gasket material and remaining rust.

Before I clean the pistons, I need to know if they have that special coating on them making and shouldnt be touched??????
