Door Locks
My door locks have been acting kinda strange lately...i've got power locks, and it works for the passenger side, and i can lock the passenger side with the power locks, but my driver side can't lock whether i try the powerlocks, keys, or pushing the **** down...it won't budge. Does anyone know what the cause of this might be?

My passenger's side door was stuck in the locked position. The power lock solenoid broke and the way they work you can't force them. Somebody broke the outside handle and bent the rod on the inside handle trying to open the door. Sounds like you need a new power lock actuator.
Pop the interior door panel off (some bolts and screws on the handle, perhaps more but that was all that was on mine) and you'll be able to see the solenoid (actuator, whatever) on the back edge of the door at the bottom - looks like a motor with a spiral rod sticking out. You can pop it out of the plastic holder and then unhook it from the latch, and that way you'll be able to use the key or **** to lock/unlock.

Well mine you could hear and see the thing trying to work, but it was all stripped out at the bottom of the shaft, so it wouldn't work.
If you pull the door panel off you can unhook the actuator from the lock mechanism (pop it out of the plastic mount) and then hit the locks a couple of times, with the wires still plugged in. If you want you can pop the other door open and just swap the wires to test a known good connection.

Trust me he is right. I had the exact same problem. Passanger side was all good but the drivers door i couldn't lock with the key, with the plunger or with the power locks. They tend to seize and its a 50/50 chance of either up or down. They are kinda a bitch to take out so i just went and cut the acctuator pin at the top with some snips.

hey guys I kinda have the same problem myself with my 88 GT. niether one of my doors will lock with the key or with the power lock button. the tops of the lock buttons are gone as well. could they be getting stuck inside or is it the same problem with the actuator? could it be a fuse?

Hm. Check your fuses. I haven't had the car long enough to know what fuses do what. Sounds like somebody unscrewed the lock stems and the shaft has fallen out of the hole. You're going to want to open the door anyway to fix that.

I doubt it's a fuse problem. The actuator is not actuating....seriously...the magnets inside get old, stick, the plunger sticks....all kinds of sh*t happens when they get old...

To avoid headaches just get a set of new ones, they are not expensive at all.For like 90 bucks you getthe pair, plus you getlike 2dozen of those door clip things-- you'll just have a small, one-time headache installing them....thats it. --- it's worth it!
