RE: 86 camaro vs 90 mustang
oh yeah camaros were garbage during those years. i wanna say they were a joke from like 72 until sometime in the early 90s they picked up a little. i had a 94 z28 i wasn't so hot about after a while. i'd get beat by my buddies totally stock 91 gt. i don't think i ever even beat an 8 cylinder mustang with that car, and it had better quality then the 86's.

1974 was the last year for the first go around for the Z28. It put out 245 stock. After that is when they really went down hill. 1993 is when they put the LT1 motor over into the camaro and they finally got back up to pace with the rest of the go fast world. An '86 maro has a 305 and they are most definately boat anchors. I would only worry if he did some serious mods or a motor swap. You could get a 350 somewhere in the 3rd gen. camaro's but they were so bogged down with bad everything else they were no good.

he's thinking of putting in a 327, will that be faster than a stock 5.0?

ahhh the ancient chevy vs ford discussion....
maybe depending on if its a built 327 or stock 327 theres alot of horsepower difference there. the 3rd gen f-bodys were pretty heavy out of the box. it also depends on what trans hes going with, so on and so on...
your not stock though...
I had a 91 rs that had a 350 dropped in it out of a 90 Z28 but they left the stock tbi off the 305 and put it on the 350, the engine was strong though no issues at all. with no modifications at all it ran 10.2 in an 1/8th mile now to me that is slow as can be for a V8 car.
but hey only one way to tell whos faster.. and yeah get a vid of it too.

mines not stock.....and he'll probably just leave the 327 stock in the camaro if he even knows how to swap....he asked me how much octane was in my OIL...and i said this "wtf?"

stock for stock you will win. By the way they never put a 327 in the third gens. 327s are cool motors but as "stock" goes I dont think you are going to find any stock 327s finding their way into a camaro considering you can get a warmed over 350 crate for about the same as a rebuilt 327. The 350 did not come around until 86.5 for the f bodys. 85 was the first year for TPI and for the time it was "quick" mid to high 15s. It also depends if it is z28 or not. It might be an 86 with the lg4 two barrel (more common) option that put out an astonishing 140 hp. mid 17s baby!
