Default front strut replacement

Just bought some Jamex struts and am getting rid of the Lakewoods.

Got the Lakewoods off and am wondering how to get the hardware that mounts the strut to the fender to the the new struts. There is a groove in the old ones that looks like you put a screwdriver in it and screw the nut off. But that screw is REALLY tight [:@] and the slot wants to strip out. Is time for a pipe wrench or is there something I'm missing??? Acer and I Thank you, boys!!

If you're talking about the top mount nut, an impact wrench would be best. It's supposed to be really thight!

use penetrating oil and an impact if possibe. If not find something thin and strong to fit in that slot and try to loosen that nut.

It seems that simple, but nothing wants to work. That little slot at the top of the strut doesn't have enough meat to hold. I could put a 6-foot cheater pipe on it with an impact and all it's going to do is twist. VERY frustrating. What about just going to the auto parts store and buying a new top assembly? I know that's the easy way out. I may put some air on it but then again, there I'd have no way to hold the shaft steady.

Stumped

I used a die grinder and a air hammer to get one off one time. I had to cut a slot in the nut and bolt and used the air hammer to pop it off.
