Like I said maybe not in your state but in mine there are laws about third brake lights. That's coming from my brother who is a cop in my state.

here in md if your car came w. a 3rd brake light u better hope its still there and working. i just went thru inspection a week ago and heard this from the mechanic doing the inspection
