AFR 185, Edelbrock Performer RPM, Trick Flow twisted wedge are probably the most common. You can get a set complete for about $1,000. Check Summit Racing. They have great prices and their customer service is freakin' awesome!

u heard the man.........but AFR's are probably the more expensive ones out of the 3. 165's are right at $1200 i think and the 185's are like $300/400 more. but AFR's are also proven to be some of the BEST flowing heads on the market. so, good luck.

I just went with the Edelbrock Performer haeds on my 85 GT and I love them. I went with the Performer instead of the RPM because I need to pass emissions and the RPM's are not emission legal. I had originally thought about the Ford Racing Y303 head but spoke to a Ford tech who told me the Performer heads have better flow numbers then the Ford heads. Edelbrock can put a nice package together for you to get the most out of you motor. They have been doing this for years. More then any one else. Call the Edelbrock tech line, they can educate you on their heads.

It really depends on your HP goal.. If you plan on staying in the low 300hp area then the AFR 165's are probably the best way to go. I have heard good things about the Edelbrock heads as well and i like them because they are relatively cheaper then the other sets of heads out there but yet I have heard no complaints. Plus Edelbrock has been around for quite sometime and is a trusted name and plus the heads look great right out of the box!

Whatever you do, don't get the intake valves too large to go with the valve reliefs in the pistons or you will run into big problems with piston to valve clearance. The stock pistons will take a valve up to 1.90" without problems but anything bigger and you run the risk of hitting the pistons depending upon the lift of the cam and the ratio of the rocker arms. Talk to the tech people at AFR or Edelbrock about your exact combination before you buy anything and they can advise you what will work and what won't. The Ford Tech Line at 586-468-1356 is also a good source of information. Remember rebuilding the engine involves putting together a package and all the pieces in the package have to work together for the engine to run strong and not damage itself. Good Luck!
