yeah i started looking at gt-40 heads off an explorer..cheap, better than the stock ones i got and plus i can port them right. what do you recomend for heads. my number i goin for is 400 or so. thanks

a fully ported set of gt40p's would make close to 400 (360-380). the killer is the plug angle was changed to fit in the fast burn chamber. you need to find a set of long tube's and hope they work, you also need to change a few plug boots to 90 degree ends (thats easy though). im not sure pinto swap headers will work. the most experence i has was helping a buddy and his dad do a 466 tube frame 74 pinto. that project never got finished as he got tired of it and finished his shelby.


i would suggest a set of 69-73 351w heads. they have simular flow numbers to gt40p's and fully ported they will get you close to 400 hp (not much more). they allow you to use standard swap headers for the pinto. there not easy to come by but they can be found for cheap on ebay, you will need to invest in some machine work to bring them up to date, and milling to bring the compression ratio up. also you need bushings for the head bolts as the 351w uses larger a headbolt diameter compared to a standard 289/302.

i figure with 400hp at the crank thats about 337hp at the wheels. in a 2600 pound pinto (most are lighter) its good for mid 11's at around 118mph. on the bottle it could be a solid 10 second car for under $1200 (more if you needed an intake).

ways u can gain hp turbo or twin turbo$$$ super charger or bore and stroke it better heads for lower ets go with some 4:10's or 3:73
throw on some slicks and short shifter will help ur shifting and sub frame connectors to handle the hp and also tubluer K member to add some more strengh throw in a cam and and fully forged it if u deside to bore and stroke it puts some #24 fuel injectors MAF

yes he is right im 16 years old without a fulltime job other than summers, i think im gunna go with the 351 heads, and a spray maybe after due time to make it even more wild : ) i got 4:10's in it now and i planned on squeezing some slicks on the back of 'er too so my goal is about 350 to 400 and 11 second street car : ) boy i cant wait! Oh yeah and i do plan on taking videos tl86gt dont worry : P Alright one more thing i heard something about a certain year crown vic's bottom end would work nice with my motor do you think theres any truth to this? or should i just keep everything the way it is..hrmm maybe a new intake..any other suggestions on this Mrbigshot your a great help thanks buddy : )
