Default Having 302 Engine Rebuilt tips on power gains, or swap tips?

i own a 94 mustang gt with the stock 5.0 302 W motor, it's had headers put on and as far as i know no other engine mods, but i have a bent valve that came down and melted a piston, hapend due to no msd and a missed shift! (idiot!) and now i'm ripping my engine out and having it rebuilt, now while it's all apart i was wondering if anyone had any tips on a good setup for power gains now that it's being done. anyone who's ripped out a 5.0 motor out of a 94, if you want to post any tips that made your swap go smooth, that would be helpful, since i'm taking it out and putting it in myself, baring in mind i'm 19 and havn't done alot of work on cars at all.

make sure get a good rebuilder.

have them bore it out .03 over for 306ci.
stock crank is fine
make sure its internally balanced good
make sure they "0 deck" it on rebuild
ask about up-graded freeze plugs

not too hard to pull these engines with some help
did my first with some help in about 4-5 hours.

Get some good aftermarket heads and cam, Trickflow TW's and TFS stg1 cam would be good.

Well, this will definetly give you alot of experience. I would DEFINETLY make sure that you have lots of plastic bags with one or two sharpie markers (nothing else!) so you can label bolts, screws, nuts, etc. Also, if you have a digital camera... use it! It will definetly help out alot if you take pictures while you are taking the motor apart. I am not sure how much extra cash you have but basically for any kind of modification to your motor now would be a great time to do it all. If I were you I would look into getting yourself a nice heads/cam/intake setup for your new motor.

I agree with everything that r.barn and bluegt said except one. Boring .030 over. I would only bore as far as I NEEDED to. The power difference between going .010, .020, and .030 over is negligable.
