Default 1986 to 1987 headlight conversion

I just bought a 1986 Mustang GT, but I don't really like the recessed headlights that it has. I was wondering if any of you have ever done a conversion to the flush mounted headlights. If so, what all do you have to change to make it right, and how hard is it? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

They are completely different front bumpers. I can't iamgine how you would accomplish this.

yeah you would need to swap over to a 87-93 front end. fenders would be the same except the 91-93 fenders but you would need the 87-93 front bumber cover, 87-93 hood, head lights, the piece to hook the head lights up and some custom stuff done if i remember correctly.

but i hate to see people doing this to the 4 eyes. i love them and there getting harder to find in good condition.

it will cost more in parts and paint than you think. Sell the car and get what you want. As for the 85-86 nose, it is the most reconizable nose for any Mustang and many people love it more than the aero nose. I personally would not swap the nose since all trim is different including the rear bumper cover. Even the drip rails are different, plus the quarter window....

i had a 1985 coupe and personally i think i liked the front better on it than my 1987 or my current 1992 coupes. i say don't get rid of the 86's front ... just leave it and restore it back to original beauty.

but to do it right you'll have to change all the side molding too as it will be different than the bumper of the 1987-1993 cars and that means a new rear bumper too.

when i bought my 86 this has already been done. the guy wrecked it and messed the front end up. i went to the junkyard and got the front end off a 88 4 banger. i had to pretty much redo everything the other guy did. i had to get a drivers side fender, hood, bumper cover, and the lights and light mounts. i got all this for $110. its pretty easy. i got the new front end on in less then a day. its pretty much just bolt on. dont buy new parts if you wanna save money. you can save SOO much money if you do it like i did. find a junk yard where you take the stuff off yourself so your not payin somebody else to do it. i like the look alot better then the 4eyes. ill have some pictures of the before and after and all between tomarrow. send me a e-mail and ill send you the pictures if you want them to get an idea of whats involved.
