Bump, I'm still contemplating this decision. I'm leaning towards the Novi only because it'd be much easier than a HCI. I'm only looking for a low 13 second car.
Have you ever had a low 13sec car? You'll only be looking for a low 13sec car until you actually run a low 13. Then you'll want an 11 sec car.

It's going to cost you every bit of $2000 for the Novi, 8" crank pulley and '93 Cobra w/p pulley. Then you need MAF and injectors (unless you're going to band-aid the system with an FMU). But you'll need MAF and injectors for H/C/I so that's a wash.

Bite the bullet now and put a little more effort into the install of the H/C/I. You'll have world's more car to show for it. And don't go cheap just because you can. Spend every bit of that $2000.

Work closely with someone like Jay Allen from www.camshaftinnovations.com on your combo. He can sell you a set of Canfields with the correct spring you'll need from the factory for a custom cam he'll cut you. He'll help you choose an intake to match. It will be the same amount of money as the Novi setup but will make more power.

Do you really want to be that guy at the track with a supercharged car running in the 13s? Don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan on the little Novi setups, but the H/C/I is smarter money spent. Do the Novi later.

My $.02.

Dude, they just did this exact comparison in the latest mustang mag. Go to autozone, and read through it. December 2006 issue of 5.0 Mustang page 132-143. They compare the novi 2000 with the edelbrock h/c/i package. Basically to sum it up for now, here's what they got...

Baseline: 205hp at 4500rpm - 274tq at 3200rpm
H/C/I: 265hp at 5300rpm - 285tq at 4400rpm
Novi2000: 304hp at 5200rpm - 336tq at 4000rpm
H/C/I and novi: 474hp at 5900rpm (that was the end of their chart.. looks like it would have kept going up) 428tq at 5700rpm, and it had just leveled off..

Also, the gains on the bottom half of the spectrum were way way better with the blower over the motor combo... from 3000rpm to 4500rpm, the blower consistenly had betwen 35-55hp over the motor combo at the same rpms... and about 60tq all the way through that rpm range.... blower FTW... the blower combo they used cost $4,154 with all supporting stuff also... the H/C/I was $3,557. Hope this helps.
That's one weak H/C/I package. Jay Allen or Ed Curtis would have crushed them.

both ways only net 75 hp or so........what another direction could be is a nice set of used heads, with a nice used intake, with a set of 1.7 rockers and a nice dry 100 shot of the gas for those few quick moments you need all in the 2-2500k range
