94 GT rear end ratio
I've been doing a lot of mods to my 94 GT vert, but haven't paid much attention to the rear end until now. I just picked the axle code off the V.C. label in the door jamb and looked it up in the 94 Mustang service manual. The code is "M", which the manual says means Traction Lok with a ratio of 2.73:1. Does that sound right? 2.73 seems low to me. Is stock really that low?
I'm trying to go for a bit of an upgrade back there, but I'm not looking to get 10 mpg. I want to be able to afford to drive it! Even with all of my mods, I get 21 mpg today and it's pretty fast. Is the service manual correct on the ratio I have today? Any suggestions on a new ratio?
Thanks in Advance

my 88 lx has 2.73's if you put more gear into it i doubt you'll lower it to 10 mpg if you're getting 21 now..you'll mostly just notice a difference on the highway

Of course, I do almost all of my driving on Mass. Rt. 3 at about 75... I was thinking 3.55 or 3.73 and hope to stay at about 14-15 mpg.

why are you under the impression that gears will give you horrible gas milage?

(21 mpg) x (2.73 / 3.55) = 16.15 mpg
(21 mpg) x (2.73 / 3.73) = 15.37 mpg
(21 mpg) x (2.73 / 4.10) = 14 mpg
