Default Engine techs-big question

Alright, so back to that 351 that I'm looking at. The guy sent some pics, I don't know enough about engines to know most of what I need to look out for. Can anyone help? The pics are included below, I have to do one per post because of the size. My main concerns so far are:
-The metal shavings and rust around the pistons- is this something I can take off with a light sandpaper, or is it a problem?
-The #1 piston appears to be a bit scorched. This shouldn't be a problem, right?

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate/need the help
