Default Need help with compression test

I was told I should do a compression test on my motor before I pull it so I will know if I need to rebuild it.
Can anyone tell me what I should have for compression for my 85 GT?
Also, I don't have the capability of checking it here. Should this be done at the dealer? If I do it myself, what do I need?

Thanks

You can buy a compression tester and do it yourself... but, why are you pulling the engine if not to rebuild it? [:-]

I am pulling the motor because the car is getting repainted. The engine has it's typical small leaks here and there so I planned on replacing as many seals/gaskets as I could while the motor was out. I guess if the compression was low, would I have less power? I don't have anything to compare it to. If it is lower than it is supposed to be, I would like to do what I have to to bring it back to spec (stock).

The engine compartment is covered with rust proofing and I need to remove the motor to clean up the rust proofing before painting.

Sorry... The motor seems to run good. No smoking and seems like plenty of power. It does run a little hot but I just got a new fan clutch to see if that will fix that problem.
The car 72,000 miles on it.

Leave it alone if there are no issues unless you plan to mod it.
