If you bybass the smog without using an eliminator pulley, the belt will stretch out and it will start rubbing against the other pulley. It doesn't take long after this until it eats itself into. I had a belt short enough to max out the tensioner and it only took it a couple months to start rubbing. Then you start getting piles of rubber on the water pump and everywhere from it before it breaks. I bought an eliminator on ebay for 40 or $50, but you can get one from Fordracing for $80 I think.

Go park outside of the parts store and put the belt on in the parking lot, if it doesn't fit, take it back inside and try another one. Saves a lot of hassle that way.

Is the 770 size for a car with or without underdrive pulleys? My smog pump is on it's way out and I don't have pulleys on mine.
