Default Long Tube vs Shortie Headers

Which are better Long Tube or Shortie Headers??? Im leaning more towards the long tube right now because I'm mainly building this car to race, but its still going to be my daily driver. Do the Shorties have a better sound?? Any Info. would be helpful here.

Long tubes have a better sound and considerably more performance, but they cost more and require a shorter mid-pipe to match it.

Long=Best Power
Short=Will Pass Emmissions

I got long tubes, they sound great and give out good performance, but aren't easy to install. I got the BBK long tubes and matching BBK H pipe with cats.

long tubes do cost more, but their crossover pipe will cost less, so that cuts back the costs of doing full exhaust

ive heard in some cases that some long tubes have low hanging clearance problems. a buddy of mine went to shorties because he said that the LTs would rub alot if he had to go over any kind of funny angle curb or speed bumps.. what about equal length shorty headers? ive also heard that they put out some pretty good numbers which are higher then the unequal lengths and close to that of some long tubes.

ground clearance isnt that bad

There is no reason in the world to get shorties over long except for the fact Long Tubes cant pass emmissions.

buying shorty headers is a huge waste of money

well.. for longtubes not being able to pass emmisions, that would be a reason wouldnt it?? So for those of us that want to pass smog = equal length shorties. those that dont care about emmisions = long tubes. sounds fair enough

Longtubes often times have trouble passing emissions because the 02 sensor is further away from the heads, so its slower relaying the a/f to the ecu and it will effect emissions, and also the exhaust is at a different temp and more of the excess fuel has burnt itself on the way to the sensors than if they were closer to the heads, causing them to read slightly lean and richening the fuel mixture.

This is what causes emissions problems, but a tune will fix that - all except for the slow response but even with that as long as you have cats you should still pass.
