It depends what county you live in.. most of Nothern Va has emissions so this leaves you with 2 options..

1.put the cats on when you go through inspection/emissions, then put on your aftermarket pipes... when you have to renew your inspection and emissions, just put them back on.

2. OR- you can get a post office box in a county like Spotsylvania or Caroline or one that dosent require emissions(pretty much any rural county), then register your car to that address. Or if you know someone that lives in one of those counties, and they are willing.. just register it to their house.

Ive lived in VA for 10 years (8 of that in counties with emmisions) and ive owned 11 Mustangs, so I know about this real well [:@] Let me know if you got any questions.

Even in the rural counties they have visual inspections. Get an off road pipe and have the cat bodies welded on to appear as if you have cats. Or you could do option 1.

Very true, it's not what you know, it's who you know!

Right now I live in Roanoke Co. but go to school in Danville. A shop built the exhaust that is on there. It has a H-pipe on it. Would my best bet be to go with an off road pipe with the shells of cats welded onto them. I just love the sound of a mean exhaust. Is it real difficult to swap around the pipes? My brother is a welder so that little bit won't be a problem.

it depends what option you go with.. remember if you just weld the fake cats on, it may not pass your actual emission test, so you'd have a problem there. the only way Id recommend doing that is if you register it in a county that wont give you an emissions test, just a visual inspection, like we mentioned before.

Can you remove the pipes that shop welded on? Its not too difficult to swap the pipes, as long as you have a way to jack the car up atleast 2 feet.

I forgot to mention also you can hollow out the cats that are on it (if you dont plan on having to run it through emissions) with something you can get inside the pipes... basically youre just making the cats empty. thats easier then finding a set of cats to weld on etc..

I have a leak somewhere on the exhaust system. This would be a very good reason for me to do any exhaust swaps that would better it. If ya'll think that one of the aftermarket companies would be better for me, let me know.
