Default changing water pump.

Well i just noticed some steam coming from the water pump area after i shut my car off. I looked at it and realized water was dripping thorugh the grasket from trhe water pump. Should this be an easy fix for me?

Should be, it's pretty straight forward... May want to pull the radiator for working room... Basically unbolt it, put the new gasket on, bolt it back up... Don't remember what the torc specs are, I'd check on it though, it can warp the pump and cause gaps if it's not torc'd even...

why do you say replace the pump? I think its just the gasket that is leaking.

Well, idk... might be wrong, but dont be surprised if you have to replace the pump also... inspect it well before you replace it... and as cheap as pumps are, id put a new one on anyway after taking all the time to take the old one off...

I agree with Mr. Randy. I am a diesel technician that primarily works on refrigeration units that uses a diesel engine to run the compressor. When the water pump leaks it is better to remove all doubt and the chance of a come back and replace it. Unless the pump only has a maybe a hundred hours on it ill try the gaskets but sense pumps are cheap now days I just assume replace it. I mean who doesn’t like new shiny parts.

P.S. If the pump is leaking through the weep hole you need to replace the pump.
