Default RE: coolant leak and losing oil under boost

dang thats pretty cool. i am gonna tag it here soon so i will be able to get more miles on it and see how it stays with the coolant lowered. thats pretty cool how you discovered that. what kinda fan do you have on your car? i found a week ago or so my stock fan was cracked so i bought a flex fan for it but it is way too loud. im thinking the black magic electric fan or just going back to the stock clutch fan again.

thanks again for the help

The stock set up. I had a flex years ago and couldn't stand the noise.

As far as the coolant goes, when the system is full and the engine is at operating temp, the system expands and builds pressure. By reducing the amount of coolant in the system, it gives a lil more room for the heat expansion and builds less pressure.

Check the front of your intake gaskets. Or your temp sending unit on the front of the intake manifold. I had some leaking and pooling where yours is and it was coming from both (and the water wasnt getting into my oil either. )

It could just be leaking coolant from the water neck where the thermostat is. It looks pretty clean except for the coolant. If the intake gasket or timing cover blew I'd expect to see some oil around there as well. As for the oil it could just be getting burnt up slowly or slipping through the rings into the combustion chamber.

I thought the same thing when mine when, i replaced the T stat gasket and it still leaked like a *****...then i saw the leaking from around the coolant temp sender, so i teflon taped it and it stopped leaking, then it still leaked and pooled right there, so i pulled my lower and i saw that the front of the gasket...between the edge of the head and the water passage into the lower had busted and water was seaping out there. Then i looked closer and could tell where the water had been trickling down the front of the head.
