how do you tell what gears I have. I think i have 3.55, but when I bought the car he said it has 3.73's. the car has great acceleration, but its my first stang' so I dont know, the car is awsome and I got a great deal, either way there are new grears in there but they might be 4.10', 3.73, or 3.55? could somone help me please. thanks.

allright, heres what u do, take a peice of chalk, tape, or watever. mark a place on the driveshaft. with the car in nuetral and the rear wheel off the ground turn the driveshaft, see how many time u have to turn it to make the wheel go around once, if u have to make about 3.75 rotations with the driveshaft then u have 3.73 gears, etc. u can also spin the rear tire aroujnd once and see how man times the driveshaft turns. hope this helps

Make that the rear wheel[b]S[b].

If you only have 1 wheel of the ground, you'll be working the differential, thus only getting 1/2 of the rotation. Which means a 3.73 would only turn the driveshaft 1.865 times. That's assuming you can even turn 1 wheel, because it might be difficult with a posi rearend.
If it's not a posi, then good luck getting the other wheel to turn the same direction. About all you can do is push the car (SLOWLY) while someone counts the rotations of the driveshaft

I missed that,yes you have to have both wheels off the ground for it to work right.

I jacked up both wheels and marked a place on the driveshaft, the drive shaft turns about 3 1/2 times per 1 tire revolution, so that means I have 3.55 gears

okay now im confused. if the driveshaft spins around about 3 1/2 times for 3.55's, then if you had 4.10's that would mean that the driveshaft spun 4.1 times per 1 tire rotation? then doesnt that mean that the engine has to work more for the 4.10s to turn the wheels once? so how are 4.10s faster? am i missing something?

Negadivone, The higher the number the faster acceleration you have, but your top end gets lower. The lower the number the higher top end you have, but you take off slower.
