Thanks Art, As I said, it will do nothing for a street tire. I took almost a full second off my et going from a street radial to a drag radial. My car spun all the way through 3rd on street tires.
5speedgt, dunno, maybe your car doesn't make enough power to need a set of dr's and street tires suffice for your application.

a street tire is a harder compound rubber/yes contact patch can be manipulated, but for refference sake...any geared/high hp. car will blister stock tires. what you did was make a flat tire with weak sidewalls rotate slower<decrease wheel spin, and made your car dangerous.

As impressed as I have been with your knowlege, I have to disagree... when you air down any tire it will widen the contact patch of the tire, so in a way make the tire itself wider, more contact area means more traction. I took off .4 of a second going from 32psi to 15psi the same day, back to back runs.

on another note, do you ever go to the DC area? I was up right under DC about a month ago and thought I saw your car

letting pressure out of street tires does nothing????
I must be in a twilight zone or something....because i let the pressure out of my BF Goodrich T/A radials and let the sidewalls bulg a little....well i noticed they definatly gripped better and i ran .3 faster on that run. So, maybe im an exception.
Those were 255's about a year ago.
P.S....before someone bitches me out for running low pressure on the street's, i refilled them with a portable tank before i drove home, the last thing i need is a sidewall failure at 70mph on the highway.

Yea, i can tell ya, as im sure you already know, a BF T/A is about street as a street tire gets. But i could even feel how much better it gripped, i mean it wasnt as good as a slick by any means, but it was better than a fully pressureized
For one thing....letting pressure out of a LOW PROFILE tire wont do sh*t but make it a danger to everyone near you, low profiles like the slide off the rims with low pressure.
Any tire with a decent side wall and it bulges out a little with low pressure is going to grip better than a pretty low profile tire anyday.
P.S.
And if letting air out does nothing for grip...then why do they tell you to do it when it snows?
