Best sound out of exhaust
I have a 91 gt with shorty headers hpipe and flowmasters. I am needing to replace the muffler back and was wondering witch series of flowmaster is the loudest. and would 3 in tailpipes sound better. have 2.5 now. Also i heard that it sounds better if i close off thecross pipe on the h pipe for a true dual set up? Thanks for any advise

The connection in the H is for vacuum. You may have heard the saying that some cars these days need backpressure. They don't NEED it, but it does eliminate a little restriction. The exhaust primaries coming into one pipe create a vacuum so it will help pull the exhaust out of the cylinders. A four cylinder car with an exhaust pipe for each cylinder would be slower than one with one main exhaust.

Back pressure is needed yet depending what has been done to your car. You will lose low end power in your stang if the motor is basically stock however gain top end power from a large diameter exhaust. The h-p is there to equalize back pressure and cylinder bank exhaust valve gases with unequal pressures. Don't plug it, you will lose power, plus the sound from your exhaust will be unequal. I'm running a 91 GT with a T5 conversion, Exhaust= BBK h pipe, with magnaflow catback, very louddd and sounds great behind a 5 speed.
