tranny problems...needs fixin
ok so i posted about this about 2 months ago and didnt really get anywhere. my 5th gear is way out of sync. its gotten worse. its to the point where it just grinds when i try to put it in 5th, and i get frustrated and have to put it in 4th till i pick up more speed. it wont go smoothly into 5th until i get it up to about 65mph. sometimes i'll get it in, and it will just pop itself out. i think i need a new clutch too. its a little rough putting it in 2nd i must say, put i don't see why that would cause 5th to be a pain in the ***.
so i figure if i need to get it re-sync-ed, or whatever, that i might was well get a new tranny or just put new gears in the one i got. which means i might as well drop it to 3:55. does anyone have any ideas as to what i should do, not far fetched ideas. remember i'm a college student with lots of bills.
thanks,
jeff

RE: tranny problems...needs fixin
Well if your on a budget do what I did: bought a junk yard tranny for $350 and put it in yourself. If you do I'd recommend renting a tranny jack. $27 for the day and let me tell you it was weel worth it. It took me about a day and a half and I pu a new rear and front seal in the tranny.
Now I'm saving up for a beefed up T5 from d&d performance.

the trany jack is a waist of money if you have a regular floor jack... i can take my tranny out in under an hour and put it in in about 1 and a half including putting the exhaust back on... and it's most likeely our clutch if you think it's bad it prolly is... once a clutch get worn down to much the pressure plate can't release it fully which causes the tranny to still have some load on it when you try to shift causing it harder to shift or grinding in your case, replace your clutch if that doesn't fix it, buy a synco rebuilt kit and rebuild the trans yourself it'll cost you $200 http://ddperformance.com/t5_parts__upgrades.htm or if your local and don't know how to rebuild it i can help you with it, it should only take 2 hours at the most to take it apart and put it back together. i goto the 3 best auto school in the country in ohio

im gonna agree w. everyone else, rebuild the one you have... while your in there might as well rebuild it all, no sence in just doing 5th gear... as far as your clutch... if your droping the trans any way... why not right?
