It took me about 2 hours to get it out. I had to unbolt the rack, headers and motor mounts. Then lifted the motor with a floor jack under the oil pan and blocked it up with 2X4's. Then I could release the oil pan and drop it far enough to reach in and unbolt the pump. Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. As far as I know you can't get it out from the top. The pump was locked tight so I removed the cover but didn't see anything really wrong. I knocked it apart wiped it out, slid it back together and it seems fine. Then I threw it in the scrap metal barrel (f@#$en junk)!! Have a new pump and shaft on the way, guess it won't hurt to throw one in and try it. I can alway use it on my next motor, lol.[:'(]

When my first one went, i happend to be coming back from the auto parts store wth oil change stuff. When I realized I had no oil pressure I poured in about 4 more quarts and drove home (about 5 miles).

What good did poring 4 quarts of oil in an engine with no oil pump do? It would do nothing to lubricate anything

Umm, what kind of humming noise was it making??? Was it registering oil pressure on your gauge?

It was something I never heard before, I thought it was coming from the exhaust. And yes it had good oil pressure on the gauge before I noticed it had none. Only wish my car had idiot lights to back up the gauges, that may have caught the attention of the idiot behind the wheel before I ruined the motor.

Actually pouring more oil in will act like a lawn mower. The crank will splash oil on the crank a cam but the lifter will take a beating the the heads will be dry.
