heads and injectors?
so ive basicaly made up my mind to get afr 165's. i still have the stock injectors and think i will be needing bigger ones. i was thinking 24#.
i have the c&l maf. with that all i have to do is change the little meter tube right? will my engine run ruff with all the new air flow?

RE: heads and injectors?
well its too late for the shorty headers. the car is in the shop having them and the catless h pipe put in. long tubes arent emissions legal in california so thats why i went with shorties....plus i got the headers and h pipe for $190.
does anyone know what the hp gains would be with the 165's, keeping in mind my current mods?

good point, but its easier to change the h-pipe when smog time rolls around as apposed to changing out long tubes and the "short" h-pipe and replacing that with the stock headers and h-pipe

well you won't notice any power difference in not getting the long tubes as most thing it's a new invention*L* the long tubes have been around since they were invented in the 50's...I would stick with the 19's for the moment as the 165's aren't that big valved I would however use a set of 1.7's you using the stock cam? if so your rpm range won't change much maybe a few 100 rpm on top if that

cool. all of my questions have been answered but one. how much horse power gain do you think ill get from those heads? all the heads (i.e. edelbrock, trickflow, etc.) say there heads are a good way to "bolt on" 30hp. but the only add i can find for afr says their 165's on a bone stock '95 added 75hp. is that an outrageous claim or is that typical?

RE: heads and injectors?
when MM&FF magazine tested a bunch of heads last year on the same motor, the AFR 165's made peak HP of 396 while the stock heads on the same motor only made 306. the smaller combustion chambers on the 165's increased the compression ratio to 9.65:1 versus the stock ratio of 9.10:1 and this contributed a lot to the extra HP and torque. in case you're interested, the torque numbers are 378 for the AFR's and 342 for the stock heads. these test results are in the Sept 2003 issue of the magazine.

thats exactly what i wanted to know. but it also raised another question. with the higher compression ratio, do i have to run premium or is 87 still ok? or should i compramise and go with 89
