high tq starter question

RE: high tq starter question
not exactly sure if this is the best way but you need a long heavy cable to go from the "hot" side of the fender solenoid where the postive battery cable is currently connected to run down to the new solenoid on the new starter. disconnect the old cable from the other side of the fender solenoid and remove it altogether but run the new longer cable in the same pathway that the original cable down to the starter runs. there's a chance that you might be able to use the old long cable but I'm not sure it will be long enough. once you have the heavy cable installed, you need to remove the smaller wire from the threaded terminal about 1/8" in diameter on the side of the fender solenoid and extend this wire using the same gauge wire down to a similar terminal on the new solenoid. this wire carries the current from the ignition switch to the solenoid and is what makes the solenoid close to rotate the starter. leave the old solenoid on the fender where it is and leave any other wires connected to the hot side of the solenoid in place so that they will still get power from the battery. you might want to tape over the unused big terminal where the large wire used to run down to the starter just to be safe. are you absolutely postive you have the right starter for a Ford Mustang?? I don't know that much about the high torque starters but I thought all Fords had the solenoid mounted away from the starter instead on on top of it, but like I said, I don't know for sure about the one you have.
