Tranny Conversion
I am going to be taking out my AOD tranny.... and equip my car with a manual transmission.
The conversion is it hard? Or rather simple
I have a certified Ford guy helping me with this process........
Also what 5 speed do I go with...
1. T5
2. T56 6 speed3
3. the 95' Cobra R Tremec
Will I see much of a diff. in horses b/t any of them?
What about gas milage diff.
?????
Thanks!!!!

RE: Tranny Conversion
The swap is pretty simple, but it time consuming. Can you only choose between those three transmissions? If you can get a Tremec 3550. From what i've heard the T56 won't bolt up & requires alot of modifying.

The pedals are the hardest part of the hole thing. You also have to move the speed o cable. I would start with taking the trans out and putting in which ever one you choose. Then attack the pedals. It took me all day to do ( I had never done it and by my self). Good luck. If you need any think I would go to www.westcoastfords.com and go to the tech area. They do a step by step swap. I hope that helps.

I have never heard of the Tremec 3550??
Is it five speed or six like the T56??
I actually found a t56 they make for my car? Would that make it line up right???http://www.ddperformance.com/t56__6_...nsmissions.htm

I wouldn't go to all the trouble of swapping to a manual tranny, I would beef up the auto. In addition to the pedals, you will need a new bellhousing and all the manual clutch parts and you might also have to change the driveshaft. If you insist on doing this, the cheapest way is to find a donor car at the junkyard and take everything associated with the manual tranny off of it including the pedals.
You could easily take the money you would spend to change over and put in into a good aftermarket auto tranny and come out ahead.

The 3550 is pretty strong 5 speed. The driveshaft will fit a T5 & I'm pretty sure it will fit a 3550. If you do do the swap put the petal assembly in first, as this is a very time consuming process.
