Default Camaros vs. Mustangs

This is mustangman74, this was a topic on here a while ago. but seriously this is a ford page, and most answers were baised. I own a 94 mustang GT, and love mustangs, but compared to the Camaro Z28 of almost any year, the mustang is considered weak as far as horsepower and torque are conserned. I am a big ford fan, But the Camaro is the better of the two.

Yes but the camaro is more expensive than a GT and with the extra cash that you would spend on the camaro you could make the mustang much faster. And i believe the cobra is faster than even the SS camaro which is top of the line like the cobra so if you look at it like that you might change your point of view.

right, and a stang pulls it off with less cubes...gotta respect that. 4.6L (bout 280 cubes)beating a 5.7L(bout 350 cubes)...it's almost non muscular.

4.6L is 281 cid. The new 5.7L is what? 347 cid I believe. Big difference.

But... on the 5.0's you can apparently slap a set of good heads on and pick up 100hp. (carcraft, july '03)

I don't know pricing on all the different used cars out there, but it seems to me that it wouldn't be that big of an investment difference.

Personally , I think Mustangs are the ultimate american V8. Camaros are nice , but like he was saying for the extra cash you spend on your camaro you can do alot more with your stang. Same thing with rice rockets , for the cash you spend making them go faster , you can do twice as much with a 5.0 . It's mainly because of the after market though. I mean a 5.0 is a great engine , but the aftermarket is what makes it awsome. Here is an example of the 5.0 aftermarket. For $6000 I got:

A 1991 Notchback 4cyl Mustang (Great overall condition , immaculate interior ) I also bought an entire 1988 Cougar as a donor car for the engine , trans and rear end . The I bought Heddman Long Tube headers , MSD pro Billet Distributer , Polished Holley 600cfm carb , Professional products Power + Plus intake (Polished), Mallory Fuel pressure regulator , Holley in-line fuel pressure gauge (liquid filled) , C4 tranny with shift kit , B&M performance torque converter , Ford Motorsports Flywheel , B&M Start Shifter , $400 Cobra R Ram air hood , Chrome Valve Covers (Nice ones not crappy ones) , a $159 set of EFI Valve covers I can eve use now , Chome Door handles , Chrome wheel arch trim , 3 Core radiator and both hoses ,etc etc etc

The $6000 also counts labor and tons of wiring , ties , many many feet of vacuumlines and other lines , fittings , new fluids , plugs , $60 set of plug wires. There is probably alot more Ive forgot about , but my basic point is try to see if you can do the same with any other car and you will probably not be able to ,therefor , the 5.0 Mustang is the greatest american V8 of today

$1800 (ported heads)

$800 (longtube headers exhaust)

------------------

$12,400 out the door for 500hp,in the 10's if you shift like a grandma

It depends on which cars you are comparing. The balance of power has gone back and forth many times over the years. 5.0sflat out rock. Regular 4.6 cars seem a little weak to me. They don't seem to come around with bolt-ons like the old 5.0s did. On the other hand, I just read how to make the new blown Cobra put out 500hp (and 390hp stock ain't too shabby either) with only bolt-ons so you never know.

Its all about what you like. Who cares what other people think. If you like camaros then you like camaros if you like mustangs then get a mustang. If I had a choice of one of the two cars I would take the camaro.

Then I would sell it and buy a Ford.

The LS1 is 346ci.

you have to remember hp to weight ratio. the fox bodies have it the sn95 and new edge dont have that advangtage. their alot heavier and not enought hp. the LS1 cars are underated in hp. and i would like to see two good drivers
battle it out one in a LS1 car and the other one in the 03cobra.it will deff. be close run. you got to remember that the LS1 is a pushrod and NA. where the cobra is forcedinduction. both hit the 12s factory.
