Default Engine trouble?

Once again I did a search to find a post with the symptoms I have. It isnt a huge problem, BUT I would love it to fix it. I fixed my temp problem yesterday with the new temp sensor. Today I was letting it warm up after cleaning the engine and once it reached operating temps, the car would no longer idle. Runs fine over 1000 rpms, but not at idle. It has always done this but I never really let it run as long as today and it was very obvious then.

Is there something I can adjust or check before replacing anything? I did notice quite a few of the idle posts, but not exactly what I had.

Thanks for any info. I'm really digging this site!

This was a problem before the engine cleaning? For starters, try cleaning the IAC motor.

Ok I'll do that tomorrow evening. If I am correct, I just need to spray it down with carb cleaner right?

And yes, it was a problem since I got the car. I just cleaned the engine today to see if there were any leaks and clean some of the gunk out as the engine compartment is in pretty rough shape.

Ok, well I'll do that my next off day. Think I'm gonna start stripping stuff off such as any bolt on parts to repaint them anyways. Got some surface rust and lots of corrosion on the engine. Guess I'll take that off and clean it while I am doing that. I hate to do all this to an engine I am eventually gonna ****** out, but it does need to run until then. Eh, it's something to do I guess.

I did remove the IAC today and cleaned it out as best I could. One of the screws on the IAC is stripped out so I couldnt break it apart, but I think I got the majority of it out. The car idles now which is nice, but it has a little bit of loping at times. Once I cleaned it and reinstalled it, it idled about 1500 rpms for about ten minutes, and then dropped back to about 900. It does not lope the entire time, but it does do it after I rev it up a good bit until it finds it's place.

The throttle body where I removed the IAC is coated in gunk on the inside. Can I remove it and clean the entire thing out with carb cleaner?
