Default AOD-Is it a vac leak or is it shot?

the tranny that would once slip shift like hell between 1-2 and a few strange bangs when going into reverse now wont even go it just slips whether in forwards or reverse and it got so bad that i couldnt get home and it left me stranded 40 miles from home Saturday night.
My Q is-is my tranny shot? The shifter moves and all its not stuck in park or anything like that and it has decent fluid it just slips like hell and just revs barely moving the car forwards or reverse. I was told the bands are shot.

I need good advice on this one because i have a trans that i was told is in great shape an aod, removed to do a t5 swap. I dont want to go putting in that trans only to find its broken too ya know? Which route should i go get the old trans fixed? try out the new trans and see if it works? Moneys tight i got 40 dollars to spend so i cant be making costly mistakes and my incomes about 100 a week in spending money. The cars coming off the road for now.
Is the trans shot? Should i go installing the new one? any helps appreciated thanx

With such a tight budget I see no choice but to swap in the spare and hope for the best.
Otherwise plan on letting the car sit till you save up some money.

go get it flushed! It might just clear it up. I work in a shop and you have no clue how many automatic cars come in with slipping trannys and not wanting to go into gear and stuff, we flush it, and it acts like a brand new transmission. Your old fluid is toast.

so you talking a full fluid flush in my old tranny will make all the slips go away? Or just drop the trans pan and change it that way. Cuz i dropepd the pan about 25k ago and put a new filter in it and now my trannys shot.

the mustang just got taken off the road today [X(] it was soo sadd now im going to be driving an 89 bronco 2 thats been sitting in my driveway until the mustang gets a trans, brakes, seatbelts that work, a new gauge cluster, etc. There is no torque in a 2.9 ticky liftin v6 bronco 2 its a dragg...lol
