But if all you need is to clean up the cylinder walls (remove taper), youll need a bore guage to measure exactly how much you need. Personally, I wouldnt just bore .030 over for the hell of it or because thats what everyone else is doing, if if only needs .010 or .020, then bore it that much, dont just go to .030. Max overbore on a block is .060, ideally you should be able to rebuild the motor 6 times, at .010 increments. Also, there usually is NO cost difference between the overbore sizes. So a .010 will cost the same as a .030 piston, etc.

In fact there will be a small power increase.
The machinist should be able to get the bores striaghter and rounder than what ford ever did and the piston you'll are no doubt a higher quality than Ford got from the low bidder.......
Also, IMHO, due to the overbore there is some ' un-shrouding' of the valves and this only helps H.P......

You were on the right track here, but these stock blocks can't take more than a .040 overbore safely. Some racing 302 blocks can take a .100 overbore and even more in some cases. I just don't want out noob here to think all blocks can go .060 without a problem. But you're still right, if needed he can do a .010 bore 4 times on the same block. As long as he gets it in increments of .010 he should be able to find a kit, and they will be the same price basically.
