Default 180 T-Stat bad??

I was running a 195 before and I couldnt keep it under 200 degrees, Im still running stock radiator because Im having cleance issues with other radiators, they are too thick and cause my fan to hit on the crank pulley of the SC. I switched over to a 180 to try to help it out 2 electric 12" fans also.

Will changing this cause issues cooling wise? I dont want to go with a 160.

the only problem you may have is you could not get as much heat in the winter as you want. Other than that, you just have to worry about being below optimum opperating temp. the actual temp will be arround 190-195 during the mild months, and anywhere from 175-205 in the extreems....also if you get on it obviously.

A 195F stat would probably keep the peak temps around 205-210F.
A 180F stat probably around 195F or so.
These are generic numbers, but it makes a point. Coolant temps will be slightly higher than the stat rating.

With that said there is nothing inherently wrong with 200F coolant, unless it is causing detonation.
What kind of peak temps were you seeing with wot runs?

Folks that have to drive their cars in 110F heat and traffic, sometimes have to run a 160F stat, just to keep their temps below 200F.

The rating of the stat is not the important factor, but rather the coolant temperature is.

i have a 180* t stat and 3 core copper rad, i dont have a s/c or electric fans though, the guy at the local radiator shop was able to find a 3core of the same dimensions as the stock for me and it cools great! good luck, and i'd only put a 180* in any future stangs i were to buy.

I am also running a 180 stat with a three core... but on a basically stock car. But I can beat the sh*t out of my car for hours and not see past 190. I hang right at 180 allllllll day long, even during the 90 degree days.
