Default 5.0 vs 4.6

I know its been done before, and im probably playin with fire posting this, but what is your opinion on the 5.0 vs 4.6 (4v) (both some-what built). I'm not limiting them to stock form, but which do you think offers the most when it comes to the street ?

I really like the 5.0. This is my third one and I haven't had any major problems with any of them. Their easy to work on and relatively bulletproof as long as your under 400 hp. But that cobra engine is bada$$. Different strokes for different folks. If your going for 800-1000 hp the 4v is probably the way to go.

I obviously prefer the 5.0. It's a great engine. But the major reason I like it... mods Mods are so damned cheap for the 5.0. You can get a cheap block and build it up for relatively cheap (when compared to the 4.6.) Personally, I find it easier to work on a 5.0 too.

Right... well the reasoning behind me posting this is because im thinking about selling my 94 GT. I'm tossed though, on whether i should keep it and build it or sell it and buy an SN-cobra. Either one is going to be a DD, and see 400-500HP max in it's life. If i do an SN-cobra, ill probably do gears/exhaust/KB. If i keep the stang ill probably do H/C/I/347 (already have exhaust and gears).

you talking about buying a new cobra or a used one? personally, I would just keep the one you already have. You can put a 347 stroker in there for under $4,000 and it will push 400+ HP and 400+ TQ. Not to mention all the other things you can do for less money. And if you're buying a used mustang, you have to worry about what the previous owner did and how well he kept it up. With this one, you already know the history.

Nah im talkin bout buying a used SN-cobra. 96-98. My father's a mechanic, and i have use of his lifts/tools. Besides, if i decide to go the cobra route im gonna make sure the one im buying is solid. but yea, if i do build it ill probably start with heads and rockers, then slowly do the intake/cam/supporting mods, then eventually stroke it. Its not going to be one big shebang, but rather a slow, eventual build.

How streetable are built 347s in relation to a 4.6 cobra?

Increasing displacement wont cause reliability problems. Its the rest of the parts, and how they work in relation to each other. THe more radical a motor, the more itll tend to break down.

PS: Id be more concerned with my drivetrain at that point, because of the increased torque.

I used to use my stang as my DD. Its around 350hp or so, Ive driven it for over 80K this way, The only problem Ive run across is trans problems, they dont hold up very well, Ive gone through 10 with this car, went through 8 with my 79.
