My car was doing the same thing....the reason yours ran a lil better when you cleaned the spark plug was that afterwards when you drove it, the engine was warm. Mine was doing exactly what yours is doing, but when the engine came up to heat the symptoms became less noticeable. My intake plenum gasket had gone **** up, so I replaced it and she runs like new again.

Thats where MY leak was, yours could be somewhere else. Do you have a propane torch? First pop the hood and with the engine running listen for a whistling ...If you cant hear one, take a propane torch and DO NOT LIGHT IT and blow some propane around on different parts of the engine If the engine begins to rev a little bit the leak is somewhere nearby where you are spraying. Yours sound pretty bad like mine was so you should easily hear the whistling.
