Good god people! Where's the basic 5.0 knowledge on this board?
like pulling the codes before you start taking things apart....
Why would you pull codes for a basic problem that can be rectified in less than ten minutes, unless there's a check engine light on? Enlighten me o' wise one.

Thats the answer I was looking for, thanks for being to the point! I'll clean it up and see how it goes, thanks.

Your cold idle is controlled by the "idle air control" valve, often referred to as the IAC. It's the tubular shaped thing with the electrical connector at the bottom mounted on the front side of your throttle body. I had the same problem a while back. I took the IAC off the throttle body and removed the electrical solenoid (held on with two screws) from the bottom. Then I flushed the crap out of the top half with brake clean. Let it dry and now it works like a charm and my cold idle is great. The piston inside the IAC gets gummed up with carbon and other crap over the years. The brake clean will clean all that out and you should be good to go.

Because there are failure codes that do not trigger the CEL + by running a KOER you confirm if the IAC is working through its RPM operating range (codes 12 & 13).....BTW, these codes do not trigger the CEL or are stored in memory.

Hmmm... I answered the guy's question correctly and Joel comes off looking like a pompous ***. I guess he should learn who's who.

Sparky, I've owned Mustangs longer than you've been alive and have been a member of this forum since the second week it was online. One doesn't have to live on a forum to have knowledge.

Ok gentlemen, I cleaned the IAC completely, piston moves freely, still no fast idle when cold......
