Default vibration

i have an 89 lx hatchback and when the car gets to be around 100 mph or so it begins to shake a lot but doesnt do it at any other time. A friend of mine who knows alot about these cars thought the driveshaft might be loose and thats why but when i checked it it seemed fine. i havent seen him again to ask him about it so I was wondering if you guys might have any ideas why it could be doing this.

check your u joints.. if you twist the driveshaft back and forth and there is a good amount oof paly, then your u joints are probably bad. and yes bad u joints do cause vibrations at highspeeds.

Have you changed the gears?

Bigger gears tend to require a better drive shaft.

The balance of the driveshaft is more important after a gear swap.

An Al driveshaft from Ford usually fixes the problem, so most folks say.

I didn't know the driveshaft balance affects the gears? but it does make sense since they are linked together! Good info as always vristang...

I was thinking check alignment and front end bearings and bushings?

I have a vibration at 80-90 and I have had tires balanced, u-joints were fine, etc.... Finally found out my driveshaft was bent a little, just bought the FMS aluminum driveshaft and putting it on tomorrow, so I will let you know if that fixes it.
