5.0's wiring was designed by a retard on crack if you ask me. That is one of the main reasons I am getting rid of mine. I HATE ALL THE STUPID **** THATS WRONG WITH THESE CARS!!!

sorry, your post just pissed me off b/c it reminds me of how ****ed up 5.0s are wired. My turn signal will turn my headlights off, my foglamp switch seems to now be a kill switch, and the AC will cause the steering column to smoke when left on hi for too long. WTF?!

ok, vented. Try replaceing the bulbs ANYWAYS, sometimes its hard to see the problem with them. My 5.0 eats them it seems, lol. Just try it, if not, yer out $5 and you KNOW its not them.

On some of the older cars the wires that go to the brake switch will break. It's just from the movement of the brake pedal over time. Look at your brake switch and gently pull on the wires and see if they're ok. I'd bet they're broke off. I posted for someone else on the same prob.

thanks everyone, i did locate the switch and the wires to it were fine but i did notice that the entire switch could rotate around and then when i pushed on the pedal i heard the click and looked and magically(i think) the brake lights worked again, but seriously thanks for the posts because now i won't get pulled over or rearended

i've got a 94. I had the same problem. I was told that the the brake lights run through the turn signal switch. I change it (around $50 bucks). That fixed the problem. My car was about 3 years old when this happened. My 2 cents.
