Gears for AOD 4spd.
What are the best gears for an 1987 LX 4spd AOD. It is a little sluggish on the start but has alot of top end right now with the stock gears. I plan on changing out the tranny eventually and want something to give it more snap on takeoff but still work well with the new tranny. Any suggestions?

RE: Gears for AOD 4spd.
I run 3.73's with my AOD. I'm glad now that I didn't go 4.10's because with my exhaust (SLP) freeway speeds would be just too damned loud. The 3.73's give a huge improvement in low-end response, but still give reasonable mileage and hi-speed driveability. On a recent 250-mile trip my bolt-on car delivered 22 mpg.

ive got the 4:10s but driive alot of highway so going to 3:55 or 3:73...it's annoying cruising 75-80 mph on the highway and its around 3000rpm..mileage isnt to bad not great but not to bad getting 200 miles to a tank running super.....anyone know how big the fueltank is ona 91lx notch

I'm running 4.10's. For a stock cam, they seemed a little much for the 1/4 mile because I ran out of gear. Otherwise, now with a better cam they seem great. Still decent highway mpgs. Plus....you have a V8 mustang----who would buy one of these for good fuel economy?

Thanks for the input everyone. Next question..........has anyone put these gears in? If so, How long did it take and any special tools? I've been doing all the upgrades myself and only have a garage floor to work on. No lift. I think I'm going to go with the 4.10s Thanks
