RE: How hard is it to get 500rwhp
It seems like the number a stock block can hold gets lower by the week lol
I stock block can support around 450rwhp safely BUT I have heard of people splitting in high 400's. Theres a local who has been running 600rwhp for quite some time now with no problems on a stock 5.0 block. 331 stroker w/ a D1 [8D]

doesn't it depend on how the hp is created? turbo, vs. s/c, vs. N/A motor, vs. nitrous? and compression affects the blocks stress as well i believe? or no? and yes i've heard of app's over 500 hp, i thought 450hp was a safe ceiling to follow ?

good luck breaking a dart block. the 450ish mark isnt some magical threshold. it just gives a rough idea when it will break. there are cars making well above this # without problems. then again there are blocks that broke before 450. its a luck of the draw kind of thing. mexican blocks do tend to be stronger, or so ive read(i have no personaly experience with them). one large factor in how long a block lasts is how high its taken rev-wise. higher revs, much greater chance to break. revs have more to do with it than how the power is made(n/a, nitrous, so on and so forth)

RE: How hard is it to get 500rwhp
i would say 99% of how much power the stock block can take is ALL IN THE TUNE. Every always says that 450 rwhp and 15-16psi on the stock Lightning motor with stock Eaton is going to break it....hell I know guys running 550-600 rwhp on stock L blocks at close to 20 psi, taking it to the strip every weekend. Every motor, 302 mustang or 331 Lightning, has it limits of course. If you know how to take care of the care and have a really good tune it will last for a long time.
