Default Water Pump Install

I bought a new water pump, and Im going to install it this weekend when Im back from college. I want to have a plan of attack so I can get right at it instead of fussing with it.

Do I need to take off the front clip/radiator, or can I just reach in and swap it. What are some tips on how to make it go easier?

Pull your radiator, pull the serpentine belt, un-bolt most of the accessories (you will have to as the bolts go through their bracing). Pull the pump, clean the old gasket material off the engine, spray copper coat on new gasket, reverse operation. It should take around 1-3 hours depending on your level of experience. Also, coat all bolts involved wiht white lithium grease, that way you wont have to struggle with them being rusted in like I bet they are now (could be a complication). My 5.0 is on its 3rd one in 20K miles. Turns out they hate 6K+ rpm

Stanger, check your belt tension if you dont have an auto tensioner. I ran into the same problem when I removed my a/c and smog pump. I had to remove the tensioner, and it turned out I was getting my belt to tight and it would waste bearings every 6 or 7k.
At any rate, just like stanger said. Remove your radiator, a/c and ps. You shouldnt have to remove the alt bracket. Personally, I use hi-heat anti-seize (copper flake), not the silver stuff. It works really well for reassembly.

^+1 but it would probabl make it easier, and run less of a risk of punturing it with tools or bolts. Make sure you remember/mark where all the bolts go. it is a PITA to mix and match all of them

And the length's... because there are like 5 different size bolts in the water pump.

Also, I would take the rad out just because its very simple and it will prob make things alot easier and give you more room to play around with.

For sure remember where allt he bolts go. I was cleanin the gasket with a lil gasket wizard thing and turned it and.......all the bolts fell out, so i had to figure out where they go 1 by 1, it was a pain in the ***.

For the bolts, do what I do. No matter what I'm doing (unless the bolts are all exactly the same) I take a cardboard box, flip it over, and draw a diagram (rough sketch, nothing fancy) of the part(s) being removed with all of the bolts holes marked. When I remove a bolt, I punch it through the cardboard box in the bolt hole mark on the diagram. That way, I know exactly which bolt goes where.
