Default Explorer upper and lower intake...are they any good?

I'm going to two junkyards on friday to look for an explorer UIM and LIM. I've heard they are a very good upgrade over the stock intake and I can get it for $15, so why not?

What are your alls opinions on them? I'm just looking for a temporary intake to use that's better than stock until I get my TFS package, which will be at least another 8 or 9 months.

If you can get the upper and lower from a 5.0 Explorer for $15, I'd jump all over it! Hell, why not take the heads while you're at it?

Sam - the local big junkyard around here is called Crazy Ray's...there are 4 of them around baltimore. They have a set list of prices...intake manifolds are $15. An entire engine is $150, a shortblock is $100. It's a you pick it, you pull it place.

Anyway...are you able to answer my question as to how much better they are than stock?

I have no idea if they have any explorers at their other locations...went to one last week and they were all 4.0L explorers. They don't inventory their stock.

It's quite a bit better actually. It's basically a Cobra manifold. If you can get a whole engine for $150, that's what I would do. Send out the heads for a p/p and valve job and slap 'em on there.

Eh...well I was just listing the price of a motor to show how cheap they are. If anything I'll buy a pair of Fox Lake GT40ps.

4fit - I asked what kind of cam you were running in another thread...don't feel like digging it up to see if you answered me. So...what kind of cam are you running? Your exhaust vid sounded sexy as hell.
