87 MUSTANG DASH AND MARKER LIGHTS INOP

The dash board and marker lights are inop on my 87 GT. I can jump the wires on the back of the dimmer switch and they come on, but nothing works correctly (turn on headlight switch and only headlights come on). I swapped headlight switches with another car and had no luck. Has anyone run into this problem and found a definitive root cause? All fuses are good, I pulled the dash out of the car and traced all the wires to make sure none were broken or cut and all look fine. When I jump the wires on the back of the dimmer all my dash and running lights function like they should. Any ideas???????

havent had the prob but sounds like the ya need a new dimmer switch and possibly headlight switch... if you can take the dimmer switch apart ther should be a coil, and a "finger(or w.e. u wanna call it)" that sweeps along it as teh dimmer is moved... make sure its touching all the time... could be a bad connection in there... either way it seems like you have isolated the prob to being the switches...

Which wires on the back of the dimmer switch did you jump together. I am having the same problem with my dash lights as well.

Thanks,

Phil

+1 on the dimmer switch. Had the same problem. Didn't have to replace it though. Just pulled the switch and "worked" with the finger to get better contact. Used contact cleaner on the finger and coil. Worked fine when I finished.
