MGB 5.0?

MGB 5.0?
I have a 76 MGB sitting here and a slightly built 302 sitting in the corner. I've been pondering over ditching the 4cyl and dropping in the V8. I personally would like to just make it pretty much a straight line car, but my dad wants to put an IRS in it. What do you guys think?

There's a guy over on www.stangnet.com in the Northwest forums that has or had a 5.0 MGB. You might post there for more info. I think his screen name is MGB5.0 or something along those lines. I've seen his car. Pretty cool.

It would be like building your own little minuature Cobra... Personally Im not a drag racer so I say go with the IRS and tear up the vintage circuit, But if you are a Dragger than go with the axle.

That'd be sweet as hell. Or put a top loader 4speed in it! It wouldn't take much hp to get that thing running very impressive numbers at the track. They weigh like 13 pounds.

PS: Id go for the 302 5/6spd and the IRS personally, it would be a lot more street friendly, IMO.

RE: MGB 5.0?
Yes they are heavy for thier size but the weight dist is like 51/49. And what is really crazy is that the 302 w/aluminum heads doesn't way much more than the little 4 banger that is in it. That motor is like a solid piece of iron.

RE: MGB 5.0?
Yeah it is a heavy little motor for it's size, but of course it is derived from a tractor motor, and we all know how often British Technology changed back then, those days a british machine shoppe was a bloke in a corner knocking off the rough edges with a hammer and chisel. Yes I grew up on the little cars, a friend once once told never to buy a car that you needed whitworth wrenches to work on, well I own both Whitworth and BS...

RE: MGB 5.0?
The thing is with your setup your going two totally different ways. If you want a drag car than go with the C4 w/ the mini tub's. If you want to go road racing that go with the 5-6spd with the IRS. It depends on what you want to do with the car...
