Default My headers are glowing cheery red!

Im still stumped on why my 88 GT wont start after it has warmed up. The motor turns over fine, just wont start. But the other day when I started it up and let it idle for 15 minutes or so I noticed my BBK longtubes were glowing cheery red on both sides, not good. What is causing this to happen? Factory temp gage shows water temp is in the norm. Anyone with any ideas?

Sounds like your running extremly lean, check your timing prolly 180 degrees off.

Ok, I hope this isnt a stupid question, If my timing is off, which Im sure it is some what, would this cause it to not start back up when hot?

If your timing was 180* off it more than likely wouldnt start at all and backfire out the intake. +1 on the extremely lean condition though, have someone check you timing and fuel pressure.

DING DING DING!!! If his temp guage is normal then the motor is not lean enough to cause the headers to glow.He would also be detonating like a bitch. I vote clogged cat or crushed exhaust tube/collector.

I vote for timing being way off, or an incredibly lean mixture. I've seen it happen on bikes from either of these things.
